If you have been arrested, you were most likely charged with an Infraction, Misdemeanor, Felony or any combination of the three according to the California Penal Code.

Infractions are offenses such as traffic violations (e.g. speeding tickets, barking dogs, etc.) and are punishable by a fine usually not exceeding $250.00 plus penalty assessments, (often plus 3 times the penalty amount). No time in jail can be imposed for an infraction.

Misdemeanors are more serious offenses (e.g. drunk driving, petty theft, etc.) and can be punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year and a fine up to $1,000.00.

Felonies are much more serious offenses (e.g. robbery, grand theft, drug possession and/or sales of drugs, etc.) and can be punishable with significantly higher fines and imprisonment in the state prison for a period of years. Capital offenses (e.g. murder) can even be punishable by death.

Sentencing in misdemeanor and felony cases can also include, restitution to the victim of a crime, alcohol and drug programs, sex or drug offender lifetime registration with local police agencies.

Why do you need a lawyer NOW?

Before you bail out - arguing to reduce your bail! A skillful lawyer can save you thousands of dollars by arguing the important issues at hand to have your bail substantially reduced so you can get out of jail NOW!

Bail bondsmen typically charge ten percent of the total bond that you are required to post for your release. Which means that if the bail is $50,000, a bondsman will charge you ten percent or $5,000 to put up bail for you. Normally, that fee is non-refundable, even if the bail is later reduced. Therefore, if your attorney can get the bail reduced, you save thousands of dollars. Often times you save more than it would cost to retain your lawyer.

Sometimes we are even able to get bail reduced to zero and you get released on your own recognizance (Your Promise to Appear) and no bail whatsoever is required.

If you have any questions about bail or how to get yourself or a loved one out of jail or police custody, please call us anytime. We can help set a bail reduction hearing or arrange for bail to be made immediately.
